The head and neck are in a neutral position. Lift the chest and shoulders up off the ground. The abdomen and legs remain on the ground. Hold this position for two counts. Release the position and slowly lower the upper torso to the floor. Repeat.

Another good exercise for the beginner is the plank. Lying on your stomach, your arms are bent at the elbow, and the forearms are flat on the ground. Your fingertips are pointed to the front. Your feet should be an inch or so apart. The spine is in a neutral position. Lift your body up onto your forearms and toes. Your body is straight (like a plank.) Your forearms and toes are supporting your weight. Maintain this posture for a minute. Gently lower your body to the floor, rest, and then repeat the posture.

To engage your core in your work-out session, tightening your abdominal muscles as if you are about to get punched in the gut. Do not hold your breath. When tightening the abdominal muscles this mobilizes the core muscles that surround the spine and helps firm the abdominal area.

What Is Core Muscle? 

The six and that you try to maintain is the core muscle. It is situated in the abdomen hidden behind the musculature area. They have five major muscles which, when accumulated, are called core muscles. The muscles are pelvic floor muscles, transversus abdominis, multifidus, internal and external obliques, rectus abdominis, erector spine, and diaphragm. However, there reside minor core muscles too which consist of latissimus dorsi, gluteus Maximus, and trapezius.

That is why it is important for you to do exercise that makes your core strengths. 

What Core Exercise Should One Do? 

Here are some of the core exercises that you can do without going to the gym. 

  • Bridge exercise: this strengthens the core muscles. 
  • Plank: rest your whole body on both hands. It strengthens your core muscles perfectly. 
  • Butterfly setup: this particular exercise is very easy and helps develop the ab. It does not put a strain on your whole body. 
  • Dead bug: these particular core exercises help in connecting your body to your mind. It helps create a deep core strength without creating a burning sensation. 

What Are Some Standing Core Exercises For Seniors? 

A senior citizen can do the following core exercises without straining their whole body. 

  • March with a twist: it helps strengthen both the core muscles. 
  • Wide second side crunch: it helps strengthen the whole belly area and tries to strengthen it. 
  • Standing stabilization: it is very easy to do. 

How Long To Strengthen The Core? 

Depending on your dietary chart, your choice of exercises, your lifestyle pattern, it can take about eight weeks maximum to get your core strengthened. 

When core muscles are sturdy this leads to balance, which leads to alignment of limbs. Flexibility is also enhanced. When the core becomes strong, you are far less likely to hurt yourself when lifting heavy objects. Making our core stronger should be the goal because our life depends on it. It is the main thing that keeps us all together. So start exercising.
